LASER DENTISTRY GUM TREATMENTS

WHAT IS A DENTAL LASER?

Dr. Eugene Y. Yang, DDS dental office utilizes the BIOLASE 940-NANOMETER EPIC 10 DIODE DENTAL LASER.  Like other types of surgical and therapeutic lasers used in medicine, dental lasers use light energy to restore, manage, and improve the soft tissues of your mouth, including your teeth and gums.  Lasers are an effective, noninvasive tool that can target a problem quickly and with precision.  Lasers with surgical precision can sterilize as it cuts, seal off blood vessels, lymph vessels and nerve endings, and coagulate gums with virtually no bleeding or collateral damage to healthy tissue.

WHAT KINDS OF LASER DENTISTRY GUM TREATMENTS DOES DR. EUGENE Y. YANG, DDS OFFER?

WHY WOULD SOMEONE NEED LASER DENTISTRY GUM TREATMENTS?

Laser dentistry gum treatment is a state-of-the-art treatment for gum disease, or an infection of the tissues and bones that support your teeth and hold them in place.  Gum disease is one of the most common oral health issues among adult patients.  It generally starts out as gingivitis, or the buildup of bacteria-filled plaque that can cause irritation, redness, and inflammation in the gums along the base of your teeth.  Untreated gingivitis can ultimately lead to periodontitis, or advanced gum disease and bone loss.

Signs of advanced gum disease include: Swollen, red, puffy, overgrown, or tender gums. Ongoing bad breathe or bad taste in your mouth.  Receding, bleeding, or highly sensitive gums.  Loose teeth or pain with chewing.  Deep pockets between your teeth and gums.

Laser dentistry gum treatments helps reduce inflammation by removing bacteria from root surfaces.  Because the laser also promotes tissue regeneration, healing is often faster than it is following traditional gum disease treatments.

DOES LASER DENTISTRY GUM TREATMENTS HURT?

In most cases a topical anesthetic is sufficient for a pain free procedure.  But also for more invasive laser dentistry gum treatments, they can be performed at our office under local anesthetic.  Dr. Eugene Y. Yang administers the local anesthetic with an injection that numbs the treatment area.  Generally laser dentistry gum treatments have little to no postoperative discomfort, minimal pain during and following treatment, and a short healing time.
